Why am I not building an 8.5L DOHC Jag v12 right now?

Apart from funds, time, two 4.2 spares, a V12 block, and the facilities for a custom crank, I mean. Anyway, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , if you actually are looking for a way to not just rebuild a V12 but totally lose your marbles, the heads for an XK6 pretty much bolt straight to a V12 if you’re willing to do the horrible job of driving them, the cylinder inserts for a 4.2 could be made to fit (AND BORED OUT A LITTLE), and one horrific crank-making operation later, hey presto! Aluminum block 8.5L+ DOHC V12.

I saw on a forum a Scandanavian talking about doing some of this, but I don’t know if he finished. He was actually trying, though.

Assuming it scaled from the 4.2, that would be well over 500 hp easily.

Unrelated to anything you wrote... I got about halfway through Metropolis the other night before I got too drunk to follow along anymore. It’s on Netflix!

it should scale very sligtly better than 2x as there is somewhat reduced friction. The biggest sticking point would probably be that one of the heads needs to reverse its airflow, or you have a really weird intake setup

I hope it’s the Kino version with the included Argentine footage. I watched the 75th anniversary version a while back, but I haven’t ever watched the complete one. Apparently a bunch of the incongruities (like “why is the industrial boss seemingly fomenting rebellion against himself”) were due to the previous cut being made by a moron named Channing Polick. The guy in charge of American distribution didn’t understand one of the subplots, so he cut it and bent the wreckage of the film back into another shape around the hole.

I actually saw a description of how two XK6 heads had been set up in the past, and it was done by mounting one backwards, yes. Thus taking the timing setup in cartoonish directions, of course.

I wonder this question quite frequently. If I become filthy stinking rich I'd love to stick AJ6 heads onto a V12 (although I'd probably keep it 5.3l) and see how much power I can make :)

Yup, it’s the one with the Argentine footage. There is a little synopsis at the beginning explaining some of that history.
